Tommy McFadden, sadly passed away on June 2nd 2022. He will be greatly missed by all at Brunswick Table Tennis Club where Tommy had been a member for many years. Table Tennis was a large part of Tommy’s life. He started playing at a young age and played regularly until shortly before his death. Tommy competed for the club in the West of Scotland Table Tennis League until January 2022. The photo above is from one of his last games for the club against Glasgow South. The list of Tommy’s achievements whilst at Brunswick included West of Scotland player of the year and helping the A team gain promotion to division 1. Tommy also played regularly in other table tennis circles including veterans competitions. As a qualified table tennis coach he played almost daily, helping to run over 50’s and a Parkinson’s session around the city. He was a regular at the Brunswick Club practice venue at the Leisuredrome where he was ever willing to coach and practice with all members of the club. His contribution to table tennis, not only at Brunswick but throughout the West of Scotland will be sorely missed.
New Match venue : Stepps Parish Church
Here we go again ! While the Scout hall served us pretty well for the first half of the match season, the committee have managed to secure a new venue from January. We’ll now play home matches on Tuesday nights which should suit most people better than Fridays. A big thanks to Billy Murphy for all his efforts. We’ve now secured a match venue just in time for our first home matches this Friday.
A big thanks to Billy Murphy, Liam Hughes and Liam Luporini. They all put in a lot of time searching for a decent venue at an affordable cost, with storage space for tables and a decent playing area. Also a big thanks to Terry Mclernon at Drumchapel TT. They are lending us 3 tables to get us started at the new venue. The new venue is 175th Scout Group, Kenmure Dr, Bishopbriggs, G64 2RQ. goo.gl/maps/DjeSgAyvhk15WxAPA New Team fees: £5 per match night. Each home playing team member must pay this fee. You will need to pay in advance through the club web site booking link. brunswickttc.weebly.com/book-a-session.html Look for the Match Venue Fees link. AGM Wed 22nd Sep 7.30
This year the AGM will be held on line again. Members should all have been sent a log in link and agenda by email. If you want to attend but haven’t received your invitation, please contact Liam Hughes. We’re now getting pretty good attendance for our Monday and Thursday sessions at the Leisuredrome.
The only restrictions still in place are continued mask wearing when in the building but not playing & reduced time on Thursdays (7.45 - 9.30) to allow time for Centre cleaning. The leagues will be re-starting in September in a limited way with three divisions. We’re still looking for a new match venue. Watch this space. Sent to all Brunswick TT Club members.
After a long absence, the Club resumed its practice sessions at the Leisuredrome on Monday and Thursday just past. In the light of the first week's experience, we have found that players are having more table time than we anticipated but, unfortunately, we are not covering the cost of hall hire. The Club committee has therefore decided that for the immediate future, starting on Thursday 27 May, nightly fees should be adjusted as follows: Seniors (all sessions) £4.00 Juniors £2.00 The longer term fees situation will be re-examined and decided at the Club AGM. Regards, Liam Hughes This week we finally managed to play some table tennis after more than a year without !
Monday’s session went really well with eight people turning up which is goog considering that no Glasgow based players could attend because of the local lock down rules. We also had eight on Thursday which is a good start. With the barriers in place there’s plenty room between the tables so it feels pretty safe from a covid point of view. Unfortunately we’ve had to raise the prices to £4 per night to cover the cost of the venue. The on line booking system means that numbers are strictly controlled. If you fancy a game next week, you’re guaranteed a decent amount of table time.
